FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a scent study?
A scent study is a candle developed through an exploration of fragrance, atmosphere, and process.
Each study is released as part of THE WAX FOUNDRY's evolving catalogue and may be offered as a permanent release, a seasonal release, or a limited edition.
What makes THE WAX FOUNDRY different?
THE WAX FOUNDRY approaches candle making as a creative practice.
Each release combines fragrance, artwork, and material process into a single study inspired by art, industry, and lived experience.
Where are your candles made?
All candles are hand-blended and poured on the West Coast of Canada.
What wax do you use?
Our candles are made using a premium custom wax blend selected for clean burning, fragrance performance, and refined finish.
What fragrance materials do you use?
We use high-quality fragrance materials sourced from trusted suppliers and selected for performance, complexity, and character.
All fragrances are formulated specifically for candle use.
Are your candles phthalate-free?
Yes.
All THE WAX FOUNDRY scent studies are formulated using phthalate-free fragrance materials selected for performance, complexity, and character.
We work with trusted suppliers and carefully evaluate all fragrance materials used in our releases.
Why does my candle look slightly different from the photos?
Each candle is hand-poured in small batches.
Minor variations in wax appearance, vessel finish, fragrance colour, and packaging are natural characteristics of handcrafted products and do not affect performance.
Why isn't my candle burning evenly?
For the first burn, allow the melt pool to reach the edges of the vessel before extinguishing the flame.
This helps establish an even wax memory and reduces tunnelling.
How long should I burn my candle?
For best results:
- Burn for 2–4 hours at a time.
- Trim the wick before each burn.
- Do not exceed 4 hours per burn session.

Do you have a permanent collection?
Yes.
While many scent studies are released seasonally or as limited editions, select fragrances may become part of THE WAX FOUNDRY's permanent catalogue.
Permanent studies remain available beyond their initial release, while seasonal and editioned studies may be archived once complete.
Will archived scent studies return?
Most archived scent studies remain part of THE WAX FOUNDRY archive.
From time to time, selected archived studies may be made available through subscriber-exclusive releases, special laboratory editions, or limited reissues.
Availability is not guaranteed and may vary by release.
How many candles are produced in each release?
Production quantities vary by study.
Many releases are intentionally produced in small batches, while select fragrances may remain part of the permanent catalogue.
Do your candles come with artwork?
Many studies include an accompanying artwork or reference print developed as part of the creative process.
Availability may vary by release.

What does "editioned" mean?
Editioned means a scent study is produced as a finite release rather than an ongoing product line.
Once an edition is sold through and archived, it may not be reproduced in the same form, although select studies may occasionally return through special releases or subscriber offerings.
